2/13 No scouts, Den 5

We had a great and busy meeting last week.  We will take a week off from scouts next week, so no meeting on 2/13.  Please use the time to finish up your Bear requirements.
Please let me know if your scout completed any belt loops this month so I can request them for the Blue and Gold.  Let me know no later than Monday.

Since we will now be in a transition to Webelos (which starts once school is out) I wanted to start to cover some basics the boys will need for next year.
For the 2/20 meeting we will cover some basic map reading skills.  Please bring a compass, if you cannot get a compass by then we can share but they will need one for Webelos.

Webelos is a bridge to Boy Scouts where the scouts take responsibility for their advancements.  Also Webelos will require more "go see it" type events and outdoor activities.  As such I would like to set up a meeting for the adults of the scouts to provide a basic overview of the Webelos requirements and get feedback for some of the camp trips and weekend outings we will need to do at somepoint.  In the winter we may have to do more weekend meetings as there may be fewer things we can do indoors at the church.  I'll try and set up the adult meeting in March or April at the latest.

Hammers and Nails 2/6 meeting

Den 5 will meet this Monday at St Thomas Church.
The boys wanted to build something, so they will build stilts.
Stilts Design

Rich and I will bring the wood and screws.
What you can bring:  drills, screw drivers (and screwdriver drill attachements), sand paper and sanders.
An extra shop vac may come in handy.

Please review the Bear requirements on pages 288-289 and make sure you have completed the requirements.  I have a list of what we have done in our den meetings on our Den blog.  There is a link at the top of the page.
Bring your books.
Let's plan on opening the meeting in that back carpeted room and then move to the big room for woodworking once Zumba clears out.
Thanks!
