Ski trip to Roundtop near York is planned for Dec 31st but dependent on the weather.  I'll keep you posted.

Webelos Woods - Nico Billoni

Webelos Woods was awesome!!!!!  We did tons of fun things!  We learned knot tying and I did well in it.  A knot I learned was the figure 8 knot, which is used in sailing and rock climbing.  I was the only one who could do it.  We also made survival bracelets.  Survival bracelets are made out of two pieces of rope.  You then tie a certain knot with one piece of rope so it fits around your wrist.  After that you get the second piece of rope and tie a different knot around the first piece of rope and keep on doing that until you run out of space on the first piece of rope.  The purpose of this bracelet is that if you are ever stranded out in the wild and you need rope you can just take apart your survival bracelet and use it for rope.

We also did first aid and it was pretty funny when the boy scouts were acting out that they were hurt (not really).  One of them was like “Ow I am injured!” in sarcasm.  We learned to make a brace for the leg.  We also learned how to make a litter (a thing to carry people who are injured badly to safety). 

The boy scouts were also really nice to me and made me want to join troop 267 even more.  They helped me when I needed help with something and they made me feel welcome.  They also cooked us food and gave us a tent to sleep in.  At night time we played ghost in the graveyard in the field which was filled with chestnut holders which are really spiky!  The bad thing was is that I slipped on a log and then the the side of my leg hit another log in front of that so there was two logs and then that same leg that banged on the two logs landed on a spike ball (chestnut holder). 

  

Best of all, the food was really good! My favorite thing I had for a meal was chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.  They were the best I ever had at camp before.  They were super super super duper fluffy.  The chocolate in the pancakes was so irresistible and it was so good since it was melted.

The closing ceremony was also pretty cool.  We all stood in a circle around the fire circle and shared what was our rose (something we enjoyed about our camping trip), our bud (something we are looking forward to when we join boy scouts) and our thorn (something we disliked about our camping trip).  My rose was that I got to spend time at Webelos Woods.  My bud was going to Philmont , New Mexico.  My thorn was that my tent mate woke me up super early.  When we left I was sad that I had to leave since I had such a great experience and such a fun time.

Last weekend four of our den members attended Webelos Woods with Troop 267.  They are based in Hempfield. Webelos Woods is a two-night camping trip. We had a lot of fun.

We slept in tiny two-man tents and the adults slept in the adult part of the camping area. The boy scouts made the food and the parents ate other things that the parents made.  The boy scouts and cub scouts could only have parent food if there was extra. We liked the boy scout food though. We ate hot dogs for lunch and at breakfast we had chocolate chip pancakes and for dinner we made foil packs.

While it was still light out, we did different activities. We divided into groups and did fire building, first aid – the guy who “broke his leg” was really funny!, knot tying, and cooking. At cooking, we stuffed chocolate chips into bananas and roasted them on the campfire. YUM! We also made survival bracelets out of rope. We had a really good time.

I thought the boys were funny. At the end of the first night, we went into a big grassy area to play games in the dark. We played Ghosts in the Graveyard and Manhunt until people got hurt falling on spiky chestnut shells. Then we went back and ate more snacks – called Cracker Barrel. Soon it was time for bed. I had a very good time at Webelos Woods!

We had a great time camping with Troop 267 at Webelos Woods.  They are a really nice troop and great group of supportive boys.

As part of their communicator badge, Nico and Carver will be posting a blog message about their Webelos Woods experience on this website.  I look forward to reading them.

Klondike

Harvest District has posted the Klondike info.  It will soon be time to pull out the sled and modify the wheels!
I'll try and reserve us a cabin this year.

The Klondike form is posted now. Be prepared and have your sled ready for anything. The theme is "Duck Tape" so decorate your sled accordingly. 

Webelos Woods who is going?

Just want to get an idea who will be attending the Webelos Woods camp out?
It is with Troop 267 (that may have been my troop as a kid--my memory is slipping...)
It will be held at Columbia Fish and Game.
Nov 15-17th.
Will need tents and camp gear.  They would like adults to attend so they can ask questions or see how their kids fit in with the Troop.  An adult is not required as long as we have enough parents to supervise our scouts.
I plan to attend with Nico.
